About Matt
Matt is a Senior Associate at Beitel Tax Law and has practiced exclusively in tax since graduating from law school in 2018. He represents owner-managers and high-net-worth individuals in disputes with the CRA at all stages of the dispute’s lifecycle. He also provides advice on complex tax issues to both corporate and individual taxpayers.
Matt has extensive experience guiding clients through the Voluntary Disclosure Program process. He has assisted clients with disclosures ranging from unfiled returns to offshore assets in known tax havens.
Additionally, Matt regularly assists clients with audits, objections and appeals to the Tax Court of Canada. While he assists on a variety of matters, he regularly assists clients disputing the characterization of real estate transactions, directors’ liability, non-arm’s length transfers, gross negligence penalties and net worth assessments.
Matt previously served as an executive member of the Ontario Bar Association’s Tax Law Section. He has also published articles on a variety of topics such as the CRA’s Voluntary Disclosure manual, working with clients in difficult situations and the current state of block chain and tax.
Prior to joining Beitel Tax Law, Matt articled for another tax boutique and worked at an international accounting firm.
